JOB PURPOSE:
Working within the workshop, carrying out development and small batch quantity manufacture of aircraft ground equipment within the MEL Group to ISO 9001 standards alongside skilled machinists and fitters.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES – WELDER/FABRICATOR:

  • Welding of aerospace ground equipment parts in mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MIG & TIG techniques.
  • Fabrication of framework assemblies using MIG & TIG welding, also including cutting, fitting and finishing techniques.
  • Silver soldering of brass, bronze and copper pressure pipework, including hydrostatic testing on completion.
  • Heat forming and bending of steel components using Oxygen/Acetylene equipment and existing tooling.
  • Wide knowledge in use of workshop welding and fabrication equipment & measuring techniques.
  • Finish items to a highly professional level with tools such as grinders and polishers. Assembly of product using riveting, bonding, welding and bolting methods.
  • Resolve queries and problems to best of ability before escalating up to next level.
  • Responsible for adhering to health and safety rules and procedures
  • Conducting assigned tasks in a controlled and safe manner, paying respect to colleagues and equipment.
  • Present a positive attitude at all times, with a resilient, adaptable approach to problems.

ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES – MACHINIST:

  • Manual machining low quantities of precision items in stainless steel, brass, aluminium & mild steels.
  • Operation and loading of pre-set CNC turning/milling machines.
  • Wide knowledge in use of all machine workshop equipment and measuring techniques.
  • Liaising with machine shop to ensure that products produced are to the specifications required.
